Miki's character shines at the beginning of the series, it was when she was the most prominent but then unfortunately for her, she falls out of focus and doesn't get much development as the rest of the cast. The below will be an abridged version of the major events that she was a part of, while also expanding on certain details about her life.
Ever since Miki was little, she's been exposed to the world of road racing bicycles. Having come from a family that owns a bicycle shop, she's developed an unrivaled passion for the sport. As a child, she's watched all sorts of road races, which only continued to fuel her love for the sport. She met her childhood friend, Imaizumi because of their mutual love for the sport. Their personalities are quite contrasting, he was aloof to her at the beginning, which in turn, frustrated Miki. Despite the bumpy start, they do become friends and maintain a long and steady friendship throughout the years. Miki would frequently watch Imaizumi's races from the moment she met him.
Her older brother and current manager of her parents bicycle shop is none other than her older brother— Kanzaki Tooji. He was also the former Captain of the Sohoku Bicycle club before he graduated. Miki follows her brother's footsteps and attends Sohoku, with full intentions to become the team manager for the cycling club. She heard about all of the members from her older brother and was very eager to finally meet them. When she does meet them, she easily impresses them with her knowledge about the team, everything that she learned about them was from her older brother. Because of this and her brother's reputation, she was quickly accepted into the team as their new manager.
It's at the start of the school year is when she runs into Onoda. At first, he mistakes her and her friend: Aya of wanting to join his anime club, to which Miki humbly declines. She shows concern for him when she finds out he's going to Akibahara, telling him that the next bus will be leaving soon, but she soon becomes shocked when he says he'll go by bike, because going to Akibahara would normally take someone four hours to get there via cycling. Since then, Miki took an interest in Onoda, even going as far get his class registration number and find out his name from his homeroom teacher. She quickly befriends him, and is there to support him and Imaizumi when her childhood friend challenges him to a race.
During the race between Onoda and Imaizumi, Miki fixes the saddle on Onoda's bike when he falls behind in the race. She raises the saddle to be higher, because she realizes that is his perfect setting for him and that he was not used to the saddle setting he originally had. Thanks to Miki, Onoda rides at a much higher speed than earlier and is able to catch up to Imaizumi. It is also during the welcoming race between the new members of the cycling club, is when Miki provides him a new road racing bike from her family's shop, replacing his old utility bicycle.
Throughout the rest of the series, Miki frequently helps the team in preperation for the upcoming Inter High. When it's finally time for the 41st Summer Inter High, she is there with her team, providing support like handing out water bottles, providing equipment and making sure that their bicycles are in good condition. Miki is brought to tears of joy when she witnesses Onoda being the first one at the top of Hakone mountain and winning the Inter High for Sohoku. Not only was she over come with joy at her school winning, she was also proud to see just how far Onoda has come since he joined the club.
Personality:
When you first meet Miki, one of the most noticeable things about her is how she's kind and friendly. Even to people she hardly even knows, Miki never fails to treat people with the utmost kindness. Her kind hearted nature makes her a very easy person to approach and strike up a conversation with. She's very open to everyone and loves making new friends. Along with being friendly, Miki also has this compassionate side to her that causes her to easily reach out to people and want to support and help them out in anyway that she can. Miki practically embodies the phrase "cheery disposition". She's always happy, it's rare for her to be seen without a bright cheery smile on her face. It's very hard to bring her down as she's an optimistic girl that chooses to look at the positive side of things.
She's also very respectful towards others. When future cycling club member Onoda, asked if she was interested in joining the anime club, her friend Aya was immediately creeped out and immediately started yelling at him but Miki on the other hand, was not bothered by it at all and didn't think of his hobby as being weird at all.
Miki's a very passionate person, despite not being a road racer herself, she loves bikes and anything that has to do with the sport. Whenever the subject of bikes is brought up, her whole face will practically light up with excitement and anyone that happens to be in the vicinity will end up listening to her ramble on about bicycles. Her care and concern for her friends and her love for bikes is a factor in how hard she works as the manager for the Sohoku Cycling club. The way she looks after the cycling club is almost akin to how a mother looks after their child. While she can come across as being oblivious at times, she can be quite observant, mostly with bicycles but she does notice when a member of the club is acting differently than usual. As the team manager, Miki provides equipment from her family's shop, fixes bicycles and does whatever she can to help them.
Despite Miki's nice and sweet nature, she has been shown to have a mischievous side. During the bicycle race in which the first years were the only participants, her senior— Makishima doubted that Onoda would be able to win, she showed no hesitation in poking fun at him the moment he changed his mind and started to see potential in Onoda. Her childhood friend: Imaizumi is also a prime target for her teasings. He does get frustrated at her antics, such as when she invited a whole bunch of his fangirls as spectators to his race against Onoda just so she could make it look like a bike race similar to the Tour de France. She has the face of an angel, but sometimes her heart can't help but be a little devilish.
She's not a pushover, either. When her fellow classmate made a lewd comment about her, she did not hold back and immediately hit him with a broom. This was the only act of violence that she's ever displayed to anyone. During the Inter high, when she was being hit on by Machimiya, a guy from a rival school, Miki immediately shoved him away and showed no hesitation in telling him off. Anyone that belittles her team will usually end up getting a stern talk from her, as that's another thing that she absolutely does not tolerate.
Even when Miki is upset, she's usually able to stay cool and approach things with a level head. She prefers to tell them off in a stern, calm tone rather than lose her temper. Even when she smacked her classmate with a broom, she still had a smile on her face, while also telling everyone "Don't worry about it~". It some ways, it can be a little unnerving seeing how calm she is when she's angry.
Overall, Miki is an enthusiastic girl who is driven with passion, and love for her friends. Listening to people share their passions and hobbies makes her happy, nothing can be better than seeing the sparkle in someone's eyes when they talk about about things that they love. She's a very friendly and approachable person, and in her mind: you can never have enough friends. She would love to meet lots of new people and learn new skills.
